The importance of site records
Many in our industry will do a great job of surveying the site, organising the correct labour and materials and getting the project delivered...
However, a fundamental part of delivering a great installation is record keeping and final pre-checks. As an example, how many will have fallen foul to an area that is slightly bigger than first surveyed or where the sub base installation isn’t to a high standard resulting in more materials being required than planned?
At CONICA, we recommend completing a full site inspection before starting work and that thorough records are kept for each and every project. A site installation record should include valuable information such as the weather on the day/days of installation, the type and quality of the sub base, the onsite security (if any) and other important data such as product batch numbers.
These records are the evidence that the installation has been completed correctly and will help enormously in the unlikely event that a post installation issue occurs. They will also help spot any re-occurring mistakes and problems, so they can be highlighted and solved quickly. Spending just 5-10 minutes to complete final site checks and on record keeping will certainly be beneficial in the long term.
CONICA provides customers with a premade installation record template and we also host invaluable training sessions, which cover this and much more, to ensure best practice.
